Wednesday safety regulators ordered Takata to preserve recalled air bag inflator mechanisms for government investigators. The bags have been known to explode spewing shrapnel into passengers. At least six people have been killed and others injured. Since 2008 25 million vehicles including BMW, FCA US, Ford, GM, Honda, Mazda, Mitsubishi, Nissan, Subaru and Toyota were recalled, and recovered inflators were sent to Takata, although 90% of vehicles are unrepaired. Then replacement parts are being made in Monclova, Mexico.
